Update on Pastor Yousel Nadarkhani

With Iranian Pastor Youcef Nadarkhani facing execution any day now unless he recants his faith, Congress has launched a major bipartisan effort to free him.

Lawmakers are urging Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to "use all the powers at your disposal" for "swift engagement with the international community to advocate for his release."

The effort is being led by Reps. Joe Pitts, R-Pa., and Heath Shuler D-N.C. 

"We must not stand by while the Iranian Regime executes a man who has committed no crime," lawmakers said in a joint letter sent to Clinton.

As of late Saturday, the letter had been signed by at least 39 members of Congress.

The American Center for Law & Justice is calling on people to join Congress in urgin Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to put pressure on Iran to release Pastor Youcef:

• Sign the petition to Secretary Clinton
• Contact your congressmen to sign on to the Pitts/Shuler letter.

The American Center for Law and Justice has also sent a letter to the United Nations calling for pressure on Iran to immediately and unconditionally release Pastor Youcef. Read the letter.

What This Means for Iran

The news comes amidst reports that the Iranian regime is increasing pressure on Nadarkhani's case, even making up charges to justify their actions.

At a court appearance last week, Nadarkhani refused to deny his Christian beliefs.

"Repent means to return. What should I return to? To the blasphemy that I had before my faith in Christ?" he said.

Religious rights advocates are continuing to speak out for Pastor Nadarkhani.

CBN News spoke with Richard Land, president of the Southern Baptist Convention's Ethics and Religious Liberty Commission. Land said the United States has an important role to play in this case.

"I think that part of American exceptionalism is that we have an obligation and a responsibility to be the friend of freedom, to be the friend of freedom of conscience," Land said.

"To help those who don't have it achieve it, and to speak up for those who can't speak up for themselves, such as this Iranian pastor," he said.

 I need my fb "real" prayer warriors to pray...dont ask why...just pray!asking prayer for first a friend of mine on FB, That was his request... Now i'm asking prayer for My family, I did lose everything but God is still Good, he've supplied me with a roof over my head and food on the  table, My daughter is still going thru her health problems nor have she found a job to support her kids yes, we are all suffering financially but all in all I remember I'm still blessed. i carried the result for many years   as they followed where i went

well father says its off up north this christmas  i want you to take your new family up    many will be shocked to see me with family daughters etc  oh my brother told them i was a convicted  child ahh  refuse to say it

anyway the police and i know he has done it all     i have had dreams of getting confronted opening my mouth  and people start crying up there knowing what has gone down   and the truth breaks out big time

This is very yrgent concerning Josh Tilbrook. I have asked prayers for him before. i finally got him the funds to come back to the states but now there is a problem they will not let him fly out of Nigeria unless he pays a BTA tax and its $850.00 pray that God will make a way I have tried to borrow more money for him but to no avail. His Mother died last night and CPS has got his childern until he can get home. He desperatley needs assitantence to get home. pray that God will make a way for him. God bless
