Romans 12:11

Romans 12:11 (NIV)

Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord.

When we first became a Christian, we were completely on fire for God. We tried to join everything! We wanted to be in the choir, on the praise team, on the usher board, on the Pastor’s Aid Club, the Deacons, the Trustees, and every other board we could find. Later on, when we developed a little more spiritual maturity, we realized that we didn’t need to do it all, but we needed to serve the Lord with gladness, and come before His presence with singing. That didn’t necessarily mean we had to be in the Music Ministry to do that. We need to love the Lord, and have a passion for Him the way we did when He saved us. This is what it means when Jesus tells us to return to our first love, which is Him, and not the programs we can become involved in.
