Daddy’s Little Girl – Part 2

Praise the Lord, everybody and good morning.  We are continuing with this series on Daddy’s Little Girl.  Please turn with me to Genesis chapter 19.

Genesis 19

And there came two angels to Sodom at even; and Lot sat in the gate of Sodom: and Lot seeing them rose up to meet them; and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground; and he said, behold now, my lords, turn in, I pray you, into your servant's house, and tarry all night, and wash your feet, and ye shall rise up early, and go on your ways. And they said, nay; but we will abide in the street all night. And he pressed upon them greatly; and they turned in unto him, and entered into his house; and he made them a feast, and did bake unleavened bread, and they did eat. But before they lay down, the men of the city, even the men of Sodom, compassed the house round, both old and young, all the people from every quarter: And they called unto Lot, and said unto him, where are the men which came in to thee this night? Bring them out unto us, that we may know them. And Lot went out at the door unto them, and shut the door after him, and said, I pray you, brethren, do not so wickedly. Behold now, I have two daughters which have not known man; let me, I pray you, bring them out unto you, and do ye to them as is good in your eyes: only unto these men do nothing; for therefore came they under the shadow of my roof. And they said, stand back. And they said again, this one fellow came in to sojourn, and he will needs be a judge: now will we deal worse with thee, than with them. And they pressed sore upon the man, even Lot, and came near to break the door. But the men put forth their hand, and pulled Lot into the house to them, and shut to the door. And they smote the men that were at the door of the house with blindness, both small and great: so that they wearied themselves to find the door.  And the men said unto Lot, hast thou here any besides? Son in law, and thy sons, and thy daughters, and whatsoever thou hast in the city, bring them out of this place: For we will destroy this place, because the cry of them is waxen great before the face of the Lord; and the Lord hath sent us to destroy it. And Lot went out, and spake unto his sons in law, which married his daughters, and said, up, get you out of this place; for the Lord will destroy this city. But he seemed as one that mocked unto his sons in law. And when the morning arose, then the angels hastened Lot, saying, arise, take thy wife, and thy two daughters, which are here; lest thou be consumed in the iniquity of the city. And while he lingered, the men laid hold upon his hand, and upon the hand of his wife, and upon the hand of his two daughters; the Lord being merciful unto him: and they brought him forth, and set him without the city. And it came to pass, when they had brought them forth abroad, that he said, escape for thy life; look not behind thee, neither stay thou in all the plain; escape to the mountain, lest thou be consumed. And Lot said unto them, Oh, not so, my Lord: Behold now, thy servant hath found grace in thy sight, and thou hast magnified thy mercy, which thou hast shewed unto me in saving my life; and I cannot escape to the mountain, lest some evil take me, and I die: Behold now, this city is near to flee unto, and it is a little one: oh, let me escape thither, (is it not a little one?) and my soul shall live. And he said unto him, see, I have accepted thee concerning this thing also, that I will not overthrow this city, for which thou hast spoken. Haste thee, escape thither; for I cannot do anything till thou become thither. Therefore the name of the city was called Zoar. The sun was risen upon the earth when Lot entered into Zoar. Then the Lord rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the Lord out of heaven; and he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground. But his wife looked back from behind him, and she became a pillar of salt.  And Abraham gat up early in the morning to the place where he stood before the Lord: And he looked toward Sodom and Gomorrah, and toward all the land of the plain, and beheld, and, lo, the smoke of the country went up as the smoke of a furnace. And it came to pass, when God destroyed the cities of the plain, that God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, when he overthrew the cities in which Lot dwelt. And Lot went up out of Zoar, and dwelt in the mountain, and his two daughters with him; for he feared to dwell in Zoar: and he dwelt in a cave, he and his two daughters. And the firstborn said unto the younger, our father is old, and there is not a man in the earth to come in unto us after the manner of all the earth: Come, let us make our father drink wine, and we will lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father. And they made their father drink wine that night: and the firstborn went in, and lay with her father; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose. And it came to pass on the morrow, that the firstborn said unto the younger, behold, I lay yester night with my father: let us make him drink wine this night also; and go thou in, and lie with him, that we may preserve seed of our father. And they made their father drink wine that night also: and the younger arose, and lay with him; and he perceived not when she lay down, nor when she arose. Thus were both the daughters of Lot with child by their father. And the first born bare a son, and called his name Moab: the same is the father of the Moabites unto this day. And the younger, she also bare a son, and called his name Benammi: the same is the father of the children of Ammon unto this day.

Today, I want to point out some things in this familiar passage of scripture that are not talked about.  Oftentimes, when we look at this story, we’re usually talking about the fall of Sodom and Gomorrah, and Lot escaping the impending doom.  However, I’m going to highlight some of the verses that we’re going to discuss.

In verse 8, when the men of the city came to Lot’s door, telling him to send out the two men staying with him for the night, which were in fact angels sent by the Lord to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah, so that they could sleep with them.  Can you see the wickedness, and why God showed those two locations no mercy?  Anyway, what I find interesting is how Lot tries to change the crowd’s mind by offering his two virgin daughters, so that they could have their way with them.

Now, Abraham had already tried to bargain with the Lord for Him to stay His wrath, but only if He found some righteous people in the cities.  He was interceding for them, and in a sense, so was Lot.  However, the role of a father is to protect his children, and this was anything but.

The sad part is that if they relented their pursuit of the angels, the daughters would have been sexually assaulted and abused by a whole crowd of horny men.  Yes, I said it, because we as the church really needs to deal with these issues, so that healing can take place.

Thank God that He intervened, and protected Lot’s daughters.  That is what our Heavenly Father does, shields us from all hurt, harm and danger.  Even though life does happen, and we as Daddy’s little girls can experience some things that are not what we would want, but the Lord turns our tests into a testimony that will help our sisters to get free.

Anyway, the next thing I want to point out is in verses 15 and 16, how Lot heeded the words of the angels, but being fearful, wanted to escape to a city called Zoar, after trying to convince his sons in law to get up and get their wives out of harm’s way.  They took it as a joke, and paid no attention to him.  The angels told Lot to take his wife and two daughters, the ones he tried to offer to the crowd, and get out of dodge.

Here’s the thing, though.  When God warns us to get out of a bad situation, no matter what it may be, run and don’t look back.  The problem with us women is that we like to reminisce and think that things couldn’t possibly be as bad as it is.  This was the mindset of Lot’s wife, even after being told to stay focused and look ahead.  She couldn’t help herself, and she was destroyed.

Imagine the anguish and sorrow of Lot as he immediately becomes a widower with two daughters, with nothing left as they flee for their lives.  That’s not what I’m focusing on, though.  Let’s talk a little bit more about us.

Ladies, if we would be honest, we have all committed the sin of staying too long.  What do I mean?  I’m glad you asked!  If the Lord tried to get our attention by telling us that there is a season change on the horizon, and it’s time to move to the next level, we want to get all nostalgic and think that it’s a mistake.

The devil is a liar.  God is trying to spare us from overstaying our welcome.  You can fill in the blanks right there.  Whether it’s a relationship with a guy, a job or anything else, we have to use the discernment that the Lord gives us in order to know when it’s time to move on.

Unfortunately for Lot’s wife, she didn’t do that, and turned into a pillar of salt, because she just couldn’t resist one last look at her former life.  Can I get a witness in the house?  Turn to your neighbor and say, bye, bye!  Just wanted to see if you were listening.

So after Sodom and Gomorrah was destroyed by fire and brimstone, and Abraham mourned over the loss of the two cities, meanwhile Lot and his daughters escaped to a cave to live in Zoar.  Now here’s another thing that I want to point out in verses 31 to 38.  These two young women for some reason didn’t realize that if the Lord could rescue them from that wicked place, He certainly could provide men for them to marry, so that they could have a family.

But, no!  These Brainiac’s devised a plan to get their father drunk, so that they could rape him, and conceive children.  Brilliant!  Now in today’s standards, that would be incest and sexual assault.  You can’t consent unless you’re sober enough to do anything, right?  That was a sidebar.  The poor man had no idea what happened.  Now watch this; it wasn’t like when the earth was destroyed by the flood later on, when God stated that He regretted making man, because their hearts, minds and thoughts were continually evil, and wiped out the world.  There were certainly more guys around.

Unfortunately for them, they were short sighted, as we can be sometimes, and didn’t see any other options for themselves.  For those of us who are still single with no children, I implore you to not make any rash decisions, because you feel the pressure of the biological clock ticking.  Don’t listen to your family members at each wedding asking you when you’re going to get married.

If you believe every word that the Lord says in His word, then you must be patient and wait on Him.  If it is in His will, and I say this because the word of God says that there are some individuals that are set aside for total service to God that will be eunuchs.  If you aren’t that person, and it is your desire to marry and have a family, don’t run ahead of the Lord and try to make it happen.

I promise you that you will be sorry and in tears for marrying the wrong person, and you may become a single parent.  Like I said yesterday, there are brothers who God may send into your life to just be a friend, and nothing more.  Ask the Lord for discernment, and like I said, wait, wait I say on the Lord, and be of good courage.  He will strengthen your heart.  May God bless you, and we’ll see you tomorrow, Lord willing.
