Sunday's Lesson. Philippians 3.7-11
Gaining Christ
Phl 3:7 But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ.
Phl 3:8 Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,
Phl 3:9 And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:
Phl 3:10 That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;
Phl 3:11 If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.
In this Philippians church There was some self righteous Christians you know those that at church every Sunday, lead praise worship follow all the rules Tong talking, bible reading member seems to be during every thing wright may think they are more righteous than others.They think they are more closer to God.
The problem in this Church those Jews were Circumcised and the Gentiles were not so the Jews though they were more righteous than the Gentiles
Paul was in jail in Rome , he wrote this personality letter to the Philippians that it doesn't matter how much good you do are obey all the commandment that is not how to be acceptable to God.
God is perfect and not a single person is perfect .No person can do enough good to become perfect. Imperfection cannot make perfection . You cannot earn or merit the right to live in God's presence
Paul had achieved the height in self- righteousness . Paul ranks among the greatest of men who have attempt to work their way into the present of God yet it was to no avail His goodness did make him acceptable to God
Verses 4-6
The privilege of birth he was saying that goodness are not found in birth nor in religious rituals. He said he was "Of the stock of Israel " He was saying he had the right national heritage . He said he was "Of the tribe of Benjamin " Benjamin was considered the aristocratic tribe of Israel because of the tribe loyalty
What he was telling these Gentiles Christians that goodness and righteousness are not found in social or religious status.
After Paul considered everything he had accomplished in his life, sad that it was all worthless when compared to Christ. To know Christ is the Christian ultimate goal. Consider your values. Do you place envy anything above your relationship with God example. Money,Men, wife,husband , children's, homes, wealth and so on.Paul gave up everything -family, friends and political freedom- in order to know Christ and his resurrection power.we too have excuses to this to this knowledge and power,but we have to make sacrifice .
What are you willing to give up in order to knowChrist Paul is telling us. Nothing is worth holding on
He had it all and it all and it was a lost. Let nothing hinder you from knowing God is the message for God 's people
Phl 3:7 But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. Aman
