Promises Kept-Luke 24:36-53

Introduction : this was the first appearance of Jesus to all the disciples at once minus Thomas was not there at the first appearance.it was eight days letter when he saw Jesus. (Jn.20:24-28) go there

Jesus had already made at least four appearance
Magdalene (Jn.20:14)
The women visiting the tomb
The two walking to Emmaus
Simon Peter we learned last week

Some of these disciples went to there meeting place notice their spiritual stat of mind at this time. Wonder was beginning to take over sadness . Minds was grasping for understanding the word was buzzing He had risen. They were discussing all this. Peter had denied him three times., John hung in with him took care of Mary. The rest deserted Him.They had seen him raised the dead. What they did not understand ? The crucification .

Verse 36-43. Why discussing these thing all of a certain out of nowhere , in the very most of this "Christ Himself stood. Notice three things
The very first word Jesus said. "Peace be unto you the needed peace that only God could give.the same peace he gives us.

Jhn 14:27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you: not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid.
Verses 36- 43 Skeptical Disciples: the were terrified , frightened, and troubled questioning and thought he was a spirit.
Verse 38 Jesus questioned them . Why do those thoughts come unto your heart?
Verse 39 Jesus proof
He is flesh and blood see my hands the nail prints. My feet verse 40
He shows them the wound
Verse 41. They still did not believe now he talk to them He is hungry and He ate with them. Proving to them I am not a spirit
What was the different from the resurrected body from the earthly body? That they could not recognize it remember Mary Magdalene though He was the Gardner (Jn.20:15)
The two disciples walking to Emmaus though He was a traveller(Lk.34;13
The disciples who was fishing did not recognize Him standing on the seashore (Jn.21:4)
After close observation , he was recognized in all these instances.
This was the same body we know by the nail prints , but it was radically changed. It had all the appearance of a physical body but it as not bound by the physical world and its material substance

It was a body that could travel and appear anyplace,at will and by thought a body unhampered by space time, material , or substance. When He appeared it was suddenlyHe came through the door
It was a body that differed enough that it was not clearly recognize at first, not until it was closely observed
(1Jn.3:2) The word of God says

&1Jo 3:2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.

Rom 8:29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son,

There is a natural body and there is a spiritual body (1Cor.:15:144)

Verses 44-47 outline 3. Scriptures Fulfilled..Jesus Christ, Death
All Scripture must be fulfilled notice in verse 44 he gave three divisions of the Old Testament : The Law, the Prophets, and the Psalms. The whole Old Testament prophesied of His coming and His salvation .

The spiritual insight needed to understand. The Scriptures. Christ opened the disciples' eyes so they could understand
The prophesies was threefold
Christ must suffer and rise Lk. 18:31-34
Repentance and Forgiveness must be preached ( 1 Cor.2:14;cp.1cor.2:9-14)
The Holy Spirit and power must be sent. As the disciples went forth witnessing , they were to be given the wonderful promise ( Holy Spirit ) and power of the father.

The promise was " of the Father"God gave the promise
Believers had to tarry, that is wait upon The Lord and pray for the promise


Act 1:8 But ye shall receive power, after that the Holy Ghost is come upon you: and ye shall be witnesses unto me both in Jerusalem, and in all Judaea, and in Samaria, and unto the uttermost part of the earth.
50-53 Saviour Ascends
The Lord ascended to the right Hand of God, that is to the position of sovereignty and power.

Verse 50-51 The purpose of the Assension
To bless. Verse 50 and it also give assurance. That God is alive and exist
It assures that Christ is Gods son (Ro.1:3-4)
It assures heaven is real (Ph.3:20-31)
It assures the gospel is true God validated the message of Christ. (Mk 16:16; 1 pt. 2:2

The Disciples' response to the Ascension
They worshipped Him
They were filled with joy
The worshipped in the temple... Continually
