Sunday's Lesson

The lesson for Sunday, October 14, 2012 is " Paying the Price." Scripture: Acts 7:51-8:1a.
OVERVIEW
We all have heard the old cliche' that the truth hurts. This lesson is a follow up to Stephen's address to the temple leaders, the Sanhedrins. Stephen tells the lenghty history of the Isralites and how these leaders now are resisting the Holy Spirit and disobeying the law given to Moses by God.
Stephen tells the temple leaders that they are the same or worst as their forefathers who murdered and persecuted their own people. He called them "stiffnecked heathens." The temple leaders and people were so infuriated with Stephen that they put their hands to their ears so that they could not hear him speak these indictments against them.
In other words, it was a lynching. They physically took Stephen out of the court house temple, before a verdict was read, before a judge could pronounce his sentencing, they dragged him to the outskirts of town where they stoned him to death. How about that for justice? Stephen paid the ultimate price for the truth and for his faith in the living God.
Believing in Jesus is one thing, but living and giving our lives is another. Are we really willing to pay the price? Are we really willing to sacrifice our lives for the gospel? Are we really committed to our faith and speak boldly as Stephen did? Lip service is one thing, a total life surrendered to God is another. Selah.
