Sunday's Lesson Phil.2:5-11
"Reflecting the Mind of Christ"
"Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus" (Phil.2:5)
Phl 2:5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
Phl 2:6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
Phl 2:7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
Phl 2:8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
Phl 2:9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:
Phl 2:10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;
Phl 2:11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
This is one of the greatest passages ever written about Jesus Christ. Very simply, the passages says that Jesus Christ is God , yet He humbled Himself and came to this corrupt world in the form of a man Christ humbled Himself and came down where we are and meet our needs
"Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus "
Take the mind of Christ and let it flow through us. Let the mind of humility and lowliness surge through our minds Do all we can to solve divisiveness and cliques pride in the Church and in the world
Verse 6
Explain Jesus Christ is God He is the very being of God
There are 3 points in this verse
Jesus Christ is of the "being" of God. The word "being"( huparchon) means existence , what a person is within and without . It is the very essence of a person
Jesus is the form of God. The word form(morphe) means the permanent, constant being of A person. (Unchangeable)
Jesus Christ is "equal" with God the word "equal" (isa) means to be on equal basis with God to possess all the qualities and attributes of God Himself. Was he robbing God? No Christ did not have to rob God He was God
"I and my Father are one"(Jn.10:30
Verse 7
Jesus Christ, Humiliation.Christ emptied Himself and became a man. Remember that we are dealing with the subject of humility the fact that Jesus Christ took a step down from heaven to earth so great the theologians do not call it the humility of Christ, but the humiliation of Christ. The Sovereign Lord of the universe He who existed.
In eternity and perfection
In Glory and majesty
In dominion and power
In all this power He took upon Himself the form of a servant. He not only was the servant of God but also the servant of man
Christ was rewarded highly exalted by God
Given a name above every name
Given supreme power and authority
Given supreme worship as Lord
Let us show humility
