Spreading God's Love Thru Prayer
A Name for a King
He was born Michael King Jr. on January 15, 1929. When he was five years old, his father joined a group of Baptist ministers on a trip to the Holy Land, which culminated with the Baptist World Alliance Convention in Berlin. It was there that Michael King Sr., moved by Martin Luther's Reformation movement, decided to change his name and that of his son to Martin Luther King.
How important is a name? Some believe it's the single most important thing we do for our children. The label we place on our children can hold the power to shape their lives and influence their potential to achieve. It explains why scientific studies have shown that people with traditional African-American names receive 50% fewer interviews, even with competitive resumes.
When we confess Christ as our Savior, God gives us a new name...Christian. Our new name shapes our lives and our potential in ways we never imagined. When we reach the end of our Christian journey, we will receive a reward for a job well done. God will be waiting to crown us with another new name...God's name!
"I will write upon him my new name." (Revelation 3:12b
Revelation 3:12King James Version (KJV)
12 Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God,
and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God:
and I will write upon him my new name.
