Jesus wants you to learn to pray with power so that prayers can effect positive changes in your life and in the lives of others for who you pray. When His disciples asked Him to teach them how to pray, Jesus responded by giving them a model payer to serve as the framework on which to build a life of prayer. This model prayer has come to be know as the “The Lord Prayer’, and it’s is used in many churches today as a regular part of Sunday morning services. This model prayer of Jesus, however, is so much more than a ritual form to be repeated on Sunday mornings; rather, it is a practical outline of prayer’s essential components presented by our Lord to lead us into a meaningful relationship with the Father from whom all blessings flow.
The Lord’s Prayer is such an outline, presented by Jesus to show us how to pray effectively. As we learn to build our prayers on the framework provided by this model prayer, we discover exciting principles that have the potential to revolutionize the way we pray and the way we get answers to our prayers.
And it came to pass, that, as he was praying in a certain place, when he ceased, one of his disciples said unto him, Lord, teach us to pray as John also taught his disciples. Luke 11:1
And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, they have their reward. But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret: and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly. But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. Be not ye therefore like unto them for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.
After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And led us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, forever. Amen. (Matt. 6:9-13)
Be blessed!
