I talk to Jesus way more than I talk to anyone else. The realization hit me this past week as I pondered something that was on my heart. Actually, I was talking to God about the fact that there was no one I could really talk to regarding this particular issue. And He let me know I was talking to someone….I was talking to Him.
Some of my friends will read this and lovingly say, “You know you could’ve talked to me!” I’ve been blessed with awesome sisters in Christ who are there when I need them and always have a word in season. But in this season, God has me in a place where He is often not just the primary, but the only One I talk to about certain things.
I talk to Him while driving, while washing dishes, while waiting in the car line at school. I unload my heart, ask questions, confess sins, and seek guidance. And I listen…and receive. Sometimes His voice is so strong I shut the hot water off, pull off the sudsy gloves, and get to my Bible to look up the verse He’s put on my heart. Sometimes there’s no strong voice, just His strong arms around me, letting me know He cares. And sometimes there’s very strong direction of what I am to do.
Though the response differs, the essentials stay the same—He’s always there. He always ministers. He always understands. Jesus is a high priest who sympathizes with our weaknesses (Hebrews 4:15). And not only does He sympathize, He replaces weakness with strength, questions with answers, uncertainty with wisdom, and anxiousness with peace.
I can’t imagine what it must’ve been like to walk with Jesus while He was on earth. But I’m thankful He lives here still, in me, and I can walk and talk with Him any time of day. And I’m thankful that He’s not only my Lord, Savior, and Redeemer. He actually calls me “friend” (John 15:14-15).
Whom do you talk to more, Jesus or your friends? Have you had a season in which Jesus was the only One you talked to about certain things? Do you consider Him your friend?
