. Teaching Objective
The student will comprehend God’s nature and character as a mighty God and loving Father and be able to make the commitment to serve and worship the one and only true God.

Introduction
God is the Eternal being who existed before the beginning of time. He is the architect, creator and sustainer of the universe and everything that exists within it. He is the mighty, supreme Master and Ruler of everything that has ever or will ever exist.

God is far too great for us to fully understand. He has no beginning and no end. There is no place where His presence is not felt. The Bible asks in Job 11:7 “Can you fathom the mysteries of God? Can you probe the limits of the Almighty?”

God lives in Heaven and He rules over the whole earth. The Bible tells us: “This is what the Lord says: ‘Heaven is my throne and the earth is my footstool”. (Isa 66:1)
“God reigns over the nations; God is seated on His holy throne” (Ps 47:8)

WHAT IS GOD LIKE?

1. His Nature
God is a Spirit. “God is a Spirit: and they that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth” (John 4:24)

2. His Divine Attributes
a. He is All-Powerful (Omnipotent) – He created the universe out of nothing. Nothing is impossible with Him.

“In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth” (Gen. 1:1) “And God said, Let there be light: and there was light” Gen. 1:3

“You alone are the Lord. You made the heavens, even the highest heavens, and their entire starry host, the earth and all that is on it, the seas and all that is in them. You give life to everything, and the multitudes of heaven worship you” (Neh 9:6).

“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb” (Ps. 139:13)

b. God is All-Knowing (Omniscient) - Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the “eyes of him to whom we must give account” (Heb 4:13).
“...God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything” (1 Jn 3:20).

c. God is Eternal – He has no beginning and no end.
“Before the mountains were born or you brought forth the earth and the world, from everlasting to everlasting You are God” (Ps. 90:2)

d. He is Omnipresent – His Spirit is everywhere at one and the same time.
“Where can I go from Your Spirit? Where can I flee from your presence? If I go up to the heavens, you are there, if I make my bed in the depths, you are there” (Ps. 139: 7-8)

e. He is Unchangeable – He does not and cannot change.
“I the Lord do not change” (Mal. 3:6)

“Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows”. (Jas. 1:17)

3. His Moral Attributes

a. He is Holy
“There is no one holy like the Lord; there is no one besides you; there is no Rock like our God” (1 Sam 2:2).

b. He is a Loving Father
“How great is the love the Father has lavished on us, that we should be called children of God! And that is what we are!..” (1 Jn 3:1)

c. He is Righteous
“The Lord is gracious and righteous; our God is full of compassion” (Ps. 116:5)
“The Lord is righteous in all His ways and loving toward all he has made” (Ps. 145:17)

4. God is too Great to live in Temples
“The God who made the world and everything in it is the Lord of heaven and earth and does not live in temples built by hands. And human hands do not serve him, as if he needed anything, because he himself gives all men life and breath and everything else... ‘For in him we live and move and have our being.’ As some of your poets have said, ‘we are his offspring” (Acts 17:24,25,28).

WE ARE:

1. Created By God
“I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. (Ps. 139: 14-15)

“When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body. All the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be” (Ps 139:15-1 6).

2. Owned By God.
“Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body” (1 Cor 6:19,20)

3. Called To Worship God
“You are worthy, our Lord and God, to receive glory and honor and power, for you created all things, and by your will they were created and have their being” (Rev 4:11).

MAKE A DECISION.
Jesus said, ‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind” (Matt 22:37).
The Bible tells us about a man called Joshua. He was a great leader of the nation of Israel. The people had been wandering for forty years in the wilderness, without a land of their own. Joshua, under God’s direction, led them in victory against the evil nations living in Canaan, and possessed their land for the homeless nation of Israel.
Joshua then challenged all the people to make a decision:
“Choose for yourselves this day that you will serve, whether the gods your forefathers served beyond the river, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you are living. BUT AS FOR ME AND MY HOUSEHOLD, WE WILL SERVE THE LORD” (Josh 24:15).
The same challenge is posed to each of us. Will you make the same commitment of Joshua this day?

My Commitment
This day I give my worship to the only true God of heaven and earth, and surrender my will, my life and possessions to Him. From this day I determine never to worship any other gods. My worship is for Him only, and I will teach others the truths about God.
