Psalm 119:1-11 What sorts of things find their way into our hearts and minds? We are not taking full responsibility for our lives when we expose ourselves to a constant barrage of ungodly words, music, or images. On the other hand, we can fill our hearts and minds with God's Word, and therefore create a defense against some of the evil messages the world sends our way.
The writer of Psalm 119 declared, "I seek you with all my heart; do not let me stray from your commands. I have hidden your word in my heart that I might not sin against you." For us, "hiding" God's Word in our hearts essentially means memorizing and meditating on the Bible, which God uses to speak to us and to show us how we ought to live.
We have been given the responsibility to guard our hearts and to keep track of the things that we hide inside it. Hiding God's Word in our heart fosters spiritual growth by helping us guard against those things that displease God.
