Reading the Word
John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
The same was in the beginning with God.
A lot of times, we are weak or get into trouble because we believe the wrong things. Many believers
today are in bondage to sin because they were taught wrong. The bible is the best teacher. Sure, God
gives us a Pastor to watch over us, but not to Lord over us. The pastor prays for us and covers us with
prayer. But we cannot depend solely upon his knowledge of the word to get us by in this life!
We must read the word and get an understanding of the gospel for ourselves. You see, God speaks
through his word. If you want to know God, then you must know what his word says. There is no go between!
The word speaks for itself and if you would read it and get an understanding of it, you will find that many of
the things we have been accustomed to doing is not recommended by the word. Many of the things that we
have been doing is a "no no" in the pages of the word.
There are all kinds of philosophies, doctrines, religions, etc. out there, but there is one God with one Word!
The word is Christ and the word speaks for Christ. Beware of folks that are always talking about what God
is speaking to them or telling them, and they never mention the bible. Beware of churches and religions that
use the bible along with another book for clarity or undiscovered writings of Jesus. Beware of ministers that
don't take the word for what it says, but they tell you that it needs to be re-interpreted to be understood!
Beware of youth ministries that say the word is too hard for youth to understand, so we need to reach them
where they are! There are youth bibles, young adult bibles, study bibles, all kinds of "break it way down" bibles
on the market. Just get the one that you understand best and use it along with the King James Version!
Parents, invest in a bible that your youth and children can understand. Also, let them
see you reading the word and enjoying it. Don't go around talking about how hard the word is to understand or
making it look like something you don't want to do. God is his word! The word is God! When a person does not
like reading the word, studying the word, or searching the word, then that person does not like hearing about
God, knowing God, being with God, or even wanting God. So check it out. If you are having a hard time desiring
to read it, then you need to find out why.
