Leviticus 19:12
Leviticus 19:12 (KJV)
And ye shall not swear by my name falsely, neither shalt thou profane the name of thy God: I am the LORD.
Even though this clearly means that we are not to speak the name of God in a negative way by swearing or saying the name of Jesus in any other manner but in worship, it also means to not misrepresent Him in any fashion. That’s broader than any profanity. It deals with actions and thoughts of the heart, which should remain pure before the Lord.
