The lesson for Sunday, October 2, 2011 is "An Ordered Life." Scripture: Proverbs 29:16-27.
OVERVIEW
An ordered life is a life that trusts in God. That is the only way for safety, peace and harmony in our lives. An ordered life is one where there is authority and leadership. A life where there is submission to one who is in a position of authority. All of us should want that type of life.
The lesson speaks of when you have wicked or corrupt leaders, the people are too. Usually, people in authority surround themselves with like-kind. Good or bad, the people tend to follow the example of the leader(s). The lesson says that where there are wicked people and wickedness, those who are upright shall see them(the wicked) fall. In other words, they(the wicked) will loose their power of authority and fall in shame and disgrace.
We are told to correct our sons(daughters) this is the way of God. For if we correct them, they will bring peace to us. If we don't correct our sons(daughters) they will bring us as parents to shame. Where there is no vision, the people perish. Have you seen some people who go about life aimlessly, no purpose, no plan, no goals, they don't know which way to go? That's a person without vision. Usually, they don't finish high school nor college, they can't keep a job, they don't know where their children are, they seem hopeless, you ask them what do they want out of life, they can't tell you.
On the other hand, you see people with a plan, they know what they want to do, they know where they want to go and they have a plan to accomplish their goals and objectives. This lesson tells us about the angry man, the prideful man, the thief, and the unjust man. One point that is clear, if we lift man up, there is sure to be trouble, but if we trust God, He will exalt us, and that is an ordered life.
