Spreading God's Love Thru Prayer

“A hired hand will run when he sees a wolf coming. He will abandon the sheep because they don’t belong to him and he isn’t their shepherd. And so the wolf attacks them and scatters the flock. . . . I am the good shepherd; I know my own sheep, and they know me, just as my Father knows me and I know the Father. So I sacrifice my life for the sheep” (John 10:12, 14-15,NLT).
Let’s face it, even the most dedicated pastor is a hired hand. He is someone the Good Shepherd trusts, an approved workman hired to care for the sheep. But sometimes even a trustworthy servant is no match for a desperate, hungry wolf (unless that servant is supernaturally emboldened as David was).
The point here is that even the best pastor will fail you at times. He’s human, after all. And he doesn’t know you the way the Good Shepherd does. Don’t misunderstand me, most of us need the godly counsel of a faithful pastor. At times we may even need the wisdom of a professional counselor. Scripture tells us that there is wisdom in a multitude of counselors, including our devoted Christian friends. The difference with Jesus is that He is always there for us: “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd sacrifices his life for the sheep” (10:11). He never fails you, never leaves you, and always has your best in mind.
We all know the famous scene in the Gospels where Jesus turned over the money changers’ tables in the temple. It was a literal act but also symbolic. Jesus was overturning an inferior religious system, declaring in effect, “You leaders are supposed to be shepherds over the people but you sell sacrifices to them rather than making true sacrifices to the Father. I’m overturning your system. I am the Good Shepherd who lays down His life for the sheep. I faithfully guide them into the good pastures that will bless and keep their lives.”
If you want true guidance in life, get to know your Shepherd’s voice. It may or may not come to you audibly, but it always comes through His written Word. Do you need direction in your life? He has but two words for you: “Follohttp://sermons.worldchallenge.org/en/node/34209w Me.” Keep your eyes on Jesus. Focus on what His Word says and obey it.You can trust Him to lead you into His promise of a rich and satisfying life!

Is evangelism a necessary activity for a Christian? Some people argue that it is every Christian's duty to do the work of an evangelist. I'm not sure. The distinctive work of an evangelist is to proclaim the gospel. Preaching and proclamation comprise one of the offices in the New Testament and one of the gifts of the Spirit, and so on. This gift is not given to everybody, and so I would say that, in the technical sense, it is not every Christian's responsibility to be an evangelist. COFFEE BREAK Coffee Break
"The Correct Way" "Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven." Matthew 18:18 There has been much teaching on this verse. It has been interpreted to have more than one meaning. The point I want to make this morning is that the Lord has given us instructions, patterns and authority in how to handle every issue that arises in our lives. There is a correct way and there is a wrong way. When you are faced with a situation, you can either handle it in the "spirit" or you can handle it in the "flesh". You can handle it based on your own understanding or God's wisdom. You can handle it in a way that seems right to you or God's way. You can either do your own will or the Lord's will. There is no doubt that handling whatever we face God's way will be the right way. Handling it our own way will only wind up making it worse. Just ask Abraham and Sarah. Will handling it the way the Lord guides and instructs always mean it will turn out the way you had hoped or planned? No, not necessarily. The Old Testament prophets and the Apostles did it God's way instead of their own way and many of them were persecuted, martyred, thrown into prison, faced threats, and so on. But what looked like defeat and seemed like they had done the wrong thing actually brought them inner victory. Just look at the cross, on the outside it looked like defeat but in reality it was the greatest victory ever won for mankind. The world says you win when you receive a trophy or prize. The Lord says you win when you do it His way, and one day He will reward you before all of creation and give you a crown of life then. Have a great day. There is a right way and a wrong way to handle situations. God's way is the right way although it might not always appear to be the right way. <>>>>>>>>>>>>/span> Coffee Break is a morning devotional written by Lorraine Ezell

THEY SHALL BE MY PEOPLE
by Don Fortner "And I will give them a heart to know me, that I am the Lord: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God: for they shall return unto me with their whole heart.” -- Jeremiah 24:7 There are some men and women in this world whom God has chosen to salvation from eternity, who must and shall be saved (John 15:16; 2 Thess. 2:13). There is a multitude, scattered among the fallen sons of Adam, in every age, in every nation who must be saved. The number of God’s elect is so great that no man can calculate it, though it always appears as only a remnant at any given time. The number is unalterably fixed by God. All the elect must be saved. Nothing can prevent their salvation. The Lord Jesus Christ has made atonement for the sins of God’s elect and redeemed them from the curse of the law by his own precious blood (Gal. 3:13). Contrary to popular opinion, Christ did not die for all men. He refused to even pray for all men (John 17:9, 20). All his work was and is for his elect alone. To say otherwise is to declare that his work, his atonement, his intercession, all his work as the sinner's Substitute was and is futile, meaningless, and vain. The death of Christ was for his particular, chosen, elect people (Isa. 53:8; John 10:11) for the satisfaction of justice on their behalf. All God’s elect, having been redeemed by the blood of Christ, shall be called from death to life by the irresistible power and almighty grace of God the Holy Spirit (Gal. 3:13-14; Psa. 65:4; 110:3). Repentance toward God, faith in Christ, and eternal life are the results of the Spirit's call. Theses are things effectually wrought in God’s elect (not offered to them) by his almighty grace. There is specific day appointed by God in which each of his elect will be called to life and faith in Christ by the gospel (Psa. 110:3; Ezek. 16:68). God will see to it that the sinner whom he has chosen will be in the place he has ordained, with his heart thoroughly prepared to receive the gospel, at the appointed time. And he will send his Word to that sinner in the irresistible power and grace of the Holy Spirit. In that day, God says, regarding every chosen, redeemed sinner, “They shall be my people.” |
