Hello Everyone,
This is Pastor Rick with week 6 of Power Moments In The Word. Last week we looked at the ear gate to your mind. This week we’ll be looking at the second gate, and perhaps the one most needed to be watched over, your Eye.
"Click here for today's Power Moment Video"
Matthew 6:22-23 says The light of the body is the eye: If therefore your eye be single, your whole body shall be full of light. But if your eye be evil, your whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in you be darkness, how great is that darkness. To understand this verse, you must view it in the light of Jesus’ command in John 6:27 (NLT) But don't be so concerned about perishable things like food. Spend your energy seeking the eternal life that the Son of Man can give you. This means that It is impossible to see the eternal, if your eyes are always fixed on what's taking place around you.
The question that must be answered is whether you want to be filled with darkness or with light. Psalm 119:130 says the entrance of the word brings light. Very few will ever look in the mirror and say “I want darkness.” But until those same people look at their hearts, they’ll never realize that they are not being Spirit led. Being led by the Spirit is not being led by your feelings, by your senses, or by your emotions.
The eye of the flesh sees only the world’s answers to life’s questions and tells you, “this is truth”. But, that's not the truth! That's being deceived. The Bible is absolute truth, filled with absolute power, that can put you over in absolutely every circumstance of life. And The Focused Eye needs to see into this. It sees what needs to be changed and drives it out by allowing the Mind of Christ to speak God's truth, the highest form of reality that exists, to that heart condition.
Let’s look at a common trouble spot in many lives, Depression. It may not be anything you are dealing with, but you may know someone who is. The Bible refers to it as Deep Waters, Desperate Times, No Joy, Hopeless Hope and Walking In Darkness. The eye of the flesh sees all of these things but does not focus on the broken heart and troubled spirit which is at the root of all depression. It counsels the mind of the flesh to deal with the symptoms of the depression. Only the Bible sees the root and identifies the issues flowing from it. And only the Bible offers real correction. Psalm 119:130 says the entrance of God’s Word into a situation brings light and understanding to everyone that will embrace it.
So, how do you deal with depression? You start with the medicine the Bible recommends, developing a merry heart. Proverbs 17:22 says A merry heart does good like a medicine: but a broken spirit dries the bones. To take a person with a despairing heart and cause a merry heart to replace it, the Focused Eye must see God’s Word as the only solution, and that is to speak the Word to his heart, believing that what he speaks will transform his oppression into rejoicing.
Keep this declaration in mind when ministering to someone who is feeling overwhelmed and lead that person to say this with you. Heart, heart, hear what the Lord says about Deep Waters. He draws me out and delivers me from any depression. My heart is fixed, trusting in the Lord. Rejoice now in the Lord's great deliverance and send forth the joy that heals my spirit. You are a merry heart and are doing good like a medicine. And, remember, The Best is Yet To Come.
Until next week,
2 Peter 1:2 May God’s grace and peace be multiplied
to you through the knowledge of Jesus Christ.
