VERSE:
Psalm 37 (King James Version)
Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity. For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb. Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. Delight thyself also in the LORD: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass. And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday. Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass. Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil. For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the LORD, they shall inherit the earth. For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be: yea, thou shalt diligently consider his place, and it shall not be. But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace. The wicked plotteth against the just, and gnasheth upon him with his teeth. The LORD shall laugh at him: for he seeth that his day is coming. The wicked have drawn out the sword, and have bent their bow, to cast down the poor and needy, and to slay such as be of upright conversation. Their sword shall enter into their own heart, and their bows shall be broken. A little that a righteous man hath is better than the riches of many wicked. For the arms of the wicked shall be broken: but the LORD upholdeth the righteous. The LORD knoweth the days of the upright: and their inheritance shall be for ever. They shall not be ashamed in the evil time: and in the days of famine they shall be satisfied. But the wicked shall perish, and the enemies of the LORD shall be as the fat of lambs: they shall consume; into smoke shall they consume away. The wicked borroweth, and payeth not again: but the righteous sheweth mercy, and giveth. For such as be blessed of him shall inherit the earth; and they that be cursed of him shall be cut off. Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright: for the end of that man is peace. But the transgressors shall be destroyed together: the end of the wicked shall be cut off. But the salvation of the righteous is of the LORD: he is their strength in the time of trouble. And the LORD shall help them, and deliver them: he shall deliver them from the wicked, and save them, because they trust in him.
COMMENTARY:
When we look abroad we see the world full of evil-doers, that flourish and live in ease. So it was seen of old, therefore let us not marvel at the matter. We are tempted to fret at this, to think them the only happy people, and so we are prone to do like them: but this we are warned against. Outward prosperity is fading. When we look forward, with an eye of Faith, we shall see no reason to envy the wicked. Their weeping and wailing will be everlasting. The life of a Christian is a believing trust in the Lord, and diligent care to serve Him according to His will. It is not trusting God, but tempting Him, if we do not make conscience of our duty to Him. A man's life consists not in abundance, but, Thou shalt have food convenient for thee. This is more than we deserve, and it is enough for one that is going to heaven. To delight in God is as much a privilege as a duty. He has not promised to gratify the appetites of the body, and the humours of the fancy, but the desires of the renewed, sanctified soul. What is the desire of the heart of a good man? It is this, to know, and love, and serve God. Commit thy way unto the Lord; roll thy way upon the Lord, so the margin reads it. Cast thy burden upon the Lord, the burden of thy care. We must roll it off ourselves, not afflict and perplex ourselves with thoughts about future events, but refer them to God, our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus. By Prayer spread thy case and all thy cares before the Lord, and trust in Him. We must do our duty, and then leave the event with God. The promise is very sweet: He shall bring that to pass, whatever it is, which thou has committed to Him. Let us be satisfied that God, our Lord, will make all to work for good to us. Let us not discompose ourselves at what we see in this world. A fretful, discontented spirit is open to many temptations. For, in all respects, the little which is allotted to the righteous, is more comfortable and more profitable than the ill-gotten and abused riches of ungodly men. It comes from a hand of special love. Our Lord, God provides plentifully and well, not only for His working servants, but for His waiting servants. They have that which is better than wealth, peace of mind, peace with God, our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus. That peace which the world cannot give, and which the world cannot have. Christ knows the believer's days. Not one day's work shall go un rewarded. Their time on earth is reckoned by days, which will soon be numbered; but heavenly happiness shall be for ever. This will be a real support to believers in evil times. Those that rest on the Rock of ages, have no reason to envy the wicked the support of their broken reeds, or to fear them.
PRAYER:
Holy and righteous God, our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus, we come before you this day, giving Thanks and praise for Your loving kindness that You have shown us. Thank You Lord, Christ Jesus that You woke us up this morning, Thank You that no harm or danger came near us, Thank You Lord. Thank You Lord, Christ Jesus, that if we have committed any sin, that You have already forgiven us. For You told us; "My little children, I am writing these things to you so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous, and He Himself is the propitiation for our sins; and not for ours only, but also for those of the whole world." Thank You Lord, Thank You. Lord Christ Jesus, Thank You that, greater is He that is in us, then he that is in this world, and that Blessed is the man whose sin the Lord will not take into account. O Bless that wonderful name of Christ Jesus. Thank You Lord that as we Your children kneel in Prayer today, those that are jobless, those that are worried about their children, their health, their marriages, homes, and who are weary and need peace, and all of the other things that have them worried and upset, that they will know that You are their Savior, and that if they just trust in You, Pray, then leave worry behind, get up and go do that which is right, and what they need to do to straighten out their problems, knowing that nothing is impossible with You, Lord Christ Jesus, and that You will Bless their every endeavor. For it is Your will that we should all prosper and be in good health, and that they must put their trust in You, for we walk by Faith not by sight, Thank You Lord Christ Jesus, Thank You. Christ Jesus, we are not afraid or do we envy the wicked, for You have told us; Do not fret because of evildoers, be not envious toward wrongdoers, A tranquil heart is life to the body, but passion is rottenness to the bones, Do not let your heart envy sinners, but live in the fear of the LORD always, Do not be envious of evil men, nor desire to be with them, I have seen that every labor and every skill which is done is the result of rivalry between a man and his neighbor. This too is vanity and striving after wind, He was saying, 'That which proceeds out of the man, that is what defiles the man. For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed the evil thoughts, fornications, thefts, murders, adulteries, deeds of coveting and wickedness, as well as deceit, sensuality, envy, slander, pride and foolishness, Love is patient, love is kind and is not jealous; love does not brag and is not arrogant, Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God, We also once were foolish ourselves, disobedient, deceived, enslaved to various lusts and pleasures, spending our life in malice and envy, hateful, hating one another, If you have bitter jealousy and selfish ambition in your heart, do not be arrogant and so lie against the truth. This wisdom is not that which comes down from above, but is earthly, natural, demonic. For where jealousy and selfish ambition exist, there is disorder and every evil thing, Therefore, putting aside all malice and all deceit and hypocrisy and envy and all slander, Do not envy a man of violence and do not choose any of his ways. Thank You Lord, Thank You, that we are Your children and desire to be obedient to Your Holy Word. Thank You that we know that we can do all things through You, Christ who strengthens us. All Glory To God. we Pray that we live this day, doing Your perfect will, and that all we do and say, be acceptable in Your sight. Thank You Lord Christ Jesus, Thank You.
Now unto You, who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, to You be the power and glory, to all generations forever and ever. Who has by the shading of Your Blood on the Cross, and raising from the grave, has proven Yourself, to be more then able to keep us, until the day of Your coming. Today and everyday, for the rest of our lives, we give Thanks unto You, most Beloved Christ Jesus. we demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ. Father, i in the Holy and Blessed name of Christ Jesus, who is Lord of my life, proclaim that our Prayer, and all we ask is already done, for we ask in Your most Precious Holy name, and i commend each and everyone of Your children's bodies and souls into Your loving, mighty hands, our Beloved Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus, Who is Lord Of Our Lives.
