Spreading God's Love Thru Prayer

Our Prayer For Today, Tuesday, August 18, 2009

VERSE:

Plead my cause, O LORD, with them that strive with me: fight against them that fight against me. Take hold of shield and buckler, and stand up for mine help. Draw out also the spear, and stop the way against them that persecute me: say unto my soul, I am thy salvation. Let them be confounded and put to shame that seek after my soul: let them be turned back and brought to confusion that devise my hurt. Let them be as chaff before the wind: and let the angel of the LORD chase them. Let their way be dark and slippery: and let the angel of the LORD persecute them. For without cause have they hid for me their net in a pit, which without cause they have digged for my soul. Let destruction come upon him at unawares; and let his net that he hath hid catch himself: into that very destruction let him fall. And my soul shall be joyful in the LORD: it shall rejoice in his salvation. Psalm 35: 1-9 (King James Version)

COMMENTARY:

It is no new thing for the most righteous men, and the most righteous cause, to meet with enemies. This is a fruit of the old enmity in the seed of the serpent against the Seed of the woman. David in his afflictions, Christ in his sufferings, the church under persecution, and the Christian in the hour temptation, all beseech the Almighty to appear in their behalf, and to vindicate their cause. We are apt to justify uneasiness at the injuries men do us, by our never having given them cause to use us so ill; but this should make us easy, for then we may the more expect that God will plead our cause.

David prayed to God to manifest himself in his trial. Let me have inward comfort under all outward troubles, to support my soul. If God, by his Spirit, witness to our spirits that he is our salvation, we need desire no more to make us happy. If God is our Friend, no matter who is our enemy. By the Spirit of prophecy, David foretells the just judgments of God that would come upon his enemies for their great wickedness. These are predictions, they look forward, and show the doom of the enemies of Christ and his kingdom. We must not desire or pray for the ruin of any enemies, except our lusts and the evil spirits that would compass our destruction. A traveller benighted in a bad road, is an expressive emblem of a sinner walking in the slippery and dangerous ways of temptation. But David having committed his cause to God, did not doubt of his own deliverance.
The bones are the strongest parts of the body. The psalmist here proposes to serve and glorify God with all his strength. If such language may be applied to outward salvation, how much more will it apply to heavenly things in Christ Jesus!

PRAYER:

Most Precious Lord and Savior Christ Jesus, Thank You for today. Yesterday is history, and tomorrow is not yet. It is today that counts. Most Holy Christ Jesus, Bless this day. Because we are redeemed by Your Blood, we are Yours. Open our eyes to the opportunities of serving You this day. Keep us in Your Grace and, no matter what happens, use us to Your Glory. We love You Lord, and Savior, and desire only Your will for us in our lives. Thank You Lord and Savior, Thank You Lord. Holy Father. You know that the world is in constant turmoil like an angry sea. There are some who think, that we are helpless against the storms that rage around us. That we have no answer for the tumult of trouble. But You have promised to be our rock of refuge, that No weapon that is formed against you will prosper; and every tongue that accuses you in judgment you will condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their vindication is from Me,' declares the LORD, The LORD is for me among those who help me; therefore I will look with satisfaction on those who hate me. To grant us that we, being rescued from the hand of our enemies, might serve Him without fear. For the scepter of wickedness shall not rest upon the land of the righteous, so that the righteous will not put forth their hands to do wrong. For in the day of trouble He will conceal me in His tabernacle; in the secret place of His tent He will hide me; He will lift me up on a rock. And now my head will be lifted up above my enemies around me, and I will offer in His tent sacrifices with shouts of joy; I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the LORD. You have promised to be our safe haven from the storm, our shelter from the wind and strife. You have said, “Be still and know that I am God; I will be exalted among the nations.” You have told us that our strength lies in quietness and trust in you. No matter how many troubles and dangers swirl around us, Thank You Lord that we know that you are still in control and that you will help and protect us. Thank You Lord, Thank You. Lord God, You know the human weaknesses and frailties, of each and everyone of us here. You know our needs and cares. Thank You Lord for Your saving Grace, for we truly need it. Thank You Lord that You have granted us peace of mind, so that we may face the difficulties that now confront us. Thank You Lord that You have Strengthen us for the battle, and that we are in no ways tired of doing Your Will, Thank You Lord, Thank You. Thank You Lord that we know that You will always lead us with Your mighty strong hand, and work things out so that they serve our eternal good. Thank You Lord, "For you make me glad by your deeds, O LORD; I sing for joy at the works of your hands. How great are your works, O LORD, how profound your thoughts! The senseless man does not know, fools do not understand, that though the wicked spring up like grass and all evildoers flourish, they will be forever destroyed. But you, O LORD, are exalted forever. "Thank You Lord, O Glory To God, our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus, who is Lord of our lives. We ask only that You except our Prayers and know that we seek, and desire to do Your will.

Now unto Him who is more then able to keep us, We give You Thanks this day and every day for the rest of our lives, and proclaim that our Prayer, and all we ask is already done, for we ask in the Holy and Precious name of Christ Jesus.

Amen.
