VERSE:
Psalm 61 (King James Version)
Hear my cry, O God; attend unto my prayer. From the end of the earth will I cry unto thee, when my heart is overwhelmed: lead me to the rock that is higher than I. For thou hast been a shelter for me, and a strong tower from the enemy. I will abide in thy tabernacle for ever: I will trust in the covert of thy wings. Selah. For thou, O God, hast heard my vows: thou hast given me the heritage of those that fear thy name. Thou wilt prolong the king's life: and his years as many generations. He shall abide before God for ever: O prepare mercy and truth, which may preserve him. So will I sing praise unto thy name for ever, that I may daily perform my vows.
COMMENTARY:
Here we find David seeks God, upon former experience. David begins with Prayers and tears, but ends with praise. Thus the soul, being lifted up to God, returns to the enjoyment of itself. Wherever we are, we have liberty to draw near to God, and may find a way open to the throne of grace. And that which separates us from other comforts, should drive us nearer to God, the fountain of all comfort. Though the heart is overwhelmed, yet it may be lifted up to God in Prayer. Nay, I will cry unto thee, for by that means it will be supported and relieved. Weeping must quicken praying, and not deaden it. God's power and promise are a rock that is higher than we are. This rock is Christ Jesus. On the Divine mercy, as on a rock, David desired to rest his soul; but he was like a ship-wrecked sailor, exposed to the billows at the bottom of a rock too high for him to climb without help. David found that he could not be fixed on the Rock of Salvation, unless the Lord placed him upon it. As there is safety in Him, and none in ourselves, let us Pray to be led to and fixed upon Christ our Rock. The service of God shall be his constant work and business: all must make it so who expect to find God their shelter and strong tower. The grace of God shall be his constant comfort. There is a people in the world that fear God's name. There is a heritage peculiar to that people; present comforts in the soul, earnests of future bliss. Those that fear God have enough in Him, and must not complain. We need desire no better heritage than that of those who fear God. Those abide to good purpose in this world, who abide before God, serve Him, and walk in His fear; those who do so, shall abide before Him for ever. And these words are to be applied to Him of whom the angel said, the Lord shall give unto him the throne of His father David, and of His kingdom there shall be no end, Lu 1:32. God's promises, and our faith in them, are not to do away, but to encourage Prayer. We need not desire to be better secured than under the protection of God's mercy and truth. And if we partake of that grace and truth which came by Jesus Christ, we may praise Him, whatever be our outward circumstances. But renewed experience of God's mercy and truth towards his people in Christ Jesus, is the main matter of our joy in Him, and our praise unto Him.
PRAYER:
O Most Precious Lord and Savior Christ Jesus, our God, and Father in Heaven, we come before You this morning in Prayer and Praise. Thank You Lord Christ Jesus, that You again kept us through another night. Thank You Lord that You allowed no harm or danger to come unto our doors. Thank You Lord Christ Jesus, that we know that Your eyes are on the sparrow, so we can be assured that You watches over us. Thank You Lord and Savior Christ Jesus, Thank You. Father, we give You all the honor and praise for we know that You are the one and only true God, and that their is none like You. Thank You Lord and Savior that You came to earth and hung on the cross, shad Your precious blood to cleanse us from the stain of sin, Thank You Lord that If any of us has sinned, we know that through our confessions, that you are faithful and have forgiven us. Thank You Lord that none of us abide in sin, because we are aware that Your Grace and Mercy abound, for You have told us that You forbid us to do so. Thank You Lord that we desire to be obedient to Your Holy Word, for we know that You our God causes all things to work together for good to those who love You, to those who are called according to Your purpose. Thank You Lord and Savior Christ that You taught us; If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love; just as I have kept My Father's commandments and abide in His love, If you know these things, you are blessed if you do them, But one who looks intently at the perfect law, the law of liberty, and abides by it, not having become a forgetful hearer but an effectual doer, this man will be blessed in what he does, Whatever we ask we receive from Him, because we keep His commandments and do the things that are pleasing in His sight, For it is not the hearers of the Law who are just before God, but the doers of the Law will be justified, Truly, truly, I say to you, he who hears My word, and believes Him who sent Me, has eternal life, and does not come into judgment, but has passed out of death into life, For whoever does the will of My Father who is in heaven, he is My brother and sister and mother, The world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God lives forever, Not everyone who says to Me, "Lord, Lord," will enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father who is in heaven will enter, Thank You Lord that we not only heard what You have told us, but we desire to do Your Holy will. Thank You Lord and Savior Christ Jesus, that You have already went into the hospitals, the prisons, the sick rooms all around the world, and touched those that need Your loving care. Thank You Lord and Savior Christ Jesus, that You have seen the hardship of us Your Children, and that right this moment You are working things out for our good. I will strengthen you, surely I will help you, surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand, For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. we venerate and glorify you, O most Blessed Lord of the Trinity, In union with that ineffable Glory With which God the Father, In His omnipotence, Honors the Holy Spirit forever. we magnify and Bless You God, our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus.
