John 3:17
For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
“Stop!
Police!”
Bang! A warning shot is fired harmlessly into the air.
He has our attention! Now that he has our attention we are ready to hear what he has to say.
You see, the policeman caught us red-handed when we stole a piece of candy and tried to run away because we knew that we faced punishment. However, after the policeman stopped us and we talked it over, he realized that we were sorry for what we had done so he promised to put in good word for us with the judge. He did, and we were given a reprieve and the charges were dropped. However, the judge told us in no uncertain terms that if we show up in his courtroom again that he would not be so lenient. In fact he assured us that he would unleash his wrath on us and the punishment will surely be harsh.
Let’s tell this Story again:
Stop sinner!
Repent! The wages of sin are death!
He has our attention! Now that He has our attention we are ready to hear what else is to be said.
You see, Jesus caught us red-handed while we were sinning and He sent a message to us to let us know that if we keep sinning we will face punishment. As we listened intently to the message we realized the errors of our ways and repented. Jesus said that He would put in a good word for us with the Father. He did (Actually He did that even before we were born and committed our first sin), and we were forgiven our sins. However He told us in no uncertain terms that if we continued our sinful ways He will not be so lenient when we come before His Judgment Seat. In fact He assured us that He would unleash His wrath on us and the punishment will surely be harsh:
He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him. (John 3:36)
