Isaiah 6:8
Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.
During our Christian journey we are often asked to practice what we preach, especially our “love thy neighbor” sermon. It may mean simply offering help, or actually lending a helping hand to one in need. It may mean to simply say a kind and encouraging word, or turning the other cheek when we are wronged. Sometimes the call may be for a much larger task such as preaching, teaching or heading some other ministry at the Church. It could be any combination of these at any given time, but the call will come to us many times during our journey.
When the call comes some of us hesitate because we feel we just can’t be “that big” especially when it comes to someone we don’t like. We don’t want to be “that big” because someone did or said something to hurt our little feelings. Jesus died for us, and for the very ones who took His life, yet we hesitate to show love and kindness to someone who bruised our feelings!
At times we hesitate to accept a calling and back away, saying something like “Isaiah was cleansed before he volunteered so he was ready to step out there.” (see Isaiah 6:7). We forget that when we accepted Christ as our Savior, we were also cleansed and our sins were purged. The experience was not as dramatic as Isaiah’s, but purging did take place.
Each time you get the call, don’t hesitate, answer, “Send me!” Remember, if He asks us to go, He’ll be with us so there’s nothing to worry about.
