Spreading God's Love Thru Prayer
Renew Your Mind - 1
The mind is awesome in it's abilities to 'do' - as in judgement, discernment, discovery, details, big picture, plans, etc. Yes it holds the paradigms of beliefs on which we build our lives. Which is why it needs to be 'renewed' - you need to look up renewed in Strong's Concordance and follow the words to the root word. When you have finished, lets look at the following scriptures from Philippians 2:5-13 in all 3 versions
--------------------------------------------------
Philippians 2 - KJV
5 Let this mind be in you,
which was also in Christ Jesus:
6 Who, being in the form of God,
thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
7 But made himself of no reputation,
and took upon him the form of a servant,
and was made in the likeness of men:
8 And being found in fashion as a man,
he humbled himself,
and became obedient unto death,
even the death of the cross.
9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him,
and given him a name which is above every name:
10 That at the name of Jesus
every knee should bow,
of things in heaven,
and things in earth,
and things under the earth;
11 And that every tongue should confess
that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.
12 Wherefore, my beloved, as ye have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence,
work out your own salvation with fear and trembling.
13 For it is God which worketh in you
both to will and to do
of his good pleasure.
AMPLIFIED: PHILIPPIANS 2
5 Let this same attitude
and purpose
and [humble] mind
be in you
which was in Christ Jesus:
[Let Him be your example in humility:]
6 Who, although being essentially one with God
and in the form of God
[possessing the fullness of the attributes
which make God God],
did not think this equality with God
was a thing to be eagerly grasped or retained,
7 But stripped Himself [of all privileges and rightful dignity],
so as to assume the guise of a servant (slave),
in that He became like men
and was born a human being.
8 And after He had appeared in human form,
He abased and humbled Himself [still further]
and carried His obedience to the extreme of death,
even the death of the cross!
9 Therefore [because He stooped so low]
God has highly exalted Him and has
freely bestowed on Him the name that is above every name,
10 That in (at) the name of Jesus
every knee should (must) bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11 And every tongue [frankly and openly]
confess and acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.
12 Therefore, my dear ones, as you have always obeyed [my suggestions], so now, not only [with the enthusiasm you would show] in my presence but much more because I am absent,
work out (cultivate, carry out to the goal, and fully complete)
your own salvation
with reverence and awe and trembling
(self-distrust, with serious caution,
tenderness of conscience,
watchfulness against temptation,
timidly shrinking from whatever might offend God
and discredit the name of Christ).
13 [Not in your own strength]
for it is God Who is all the while effectually at work in you
[energizing and creating in you the power and desire],
both to will and to work for His good pleasure and satisfaction
and delight.
THE MESSAGE: PHILIPPIANS 2:
5 -8 Think of yourselves the way Christ Jesus thought of himself.
He had equal status with God but didn't think so much of himself
that he had to cling to the advantages of that status no matter what.
Not at all.
When the time came, he set aside the privileges of deity
and took on the status of a slave, became human!
Having become human, he stayed human.
It was an incredibly humbling process.
He didn't claim special privileges.
Instead, he lived a selfless, obedient life
and then died a selfless, obedient death—
and the worst kind of death at that—a crucifixion.
9 -11 Because of that obedience,
God lifted him high and honored him
far beyond anyone or anything, ever,
so that all created beings in heaven and on earth—
even those long ago dead and buried—
will bow in worship before this Jesus Christ,
and call out in praise that he is the Master of all,
to the glorious honor of God the Father.
12 -13 What I'm getting at, friends, is that you should simply keep on doing what you've done from the beginning. When I was living among you, you lived in responsive obedience. Now that I'm separated from you, keep it up. Better yet, redouble your efforts.
Be energetic in your life of salvation,
reverent and sensitive before God.
That energy is God's energy,
an energy deep within you,
God himself willing and working
at what will give him the most pleasure.
