VERSE:
Psalm 37: 1-10 (King James Version)
Fret not thyself because of evildoers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity. For they shall soon be cut down like the grass, and wither as the green herb. Trust in the LORD, and do good; so shalt thou dwell in the land, and verily thou shalt be fed. Delight thyself also in the LORD: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass. And he shall bring forth thy righteousness as the light, and thy judgment as the noonday. Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass. Cease from anger, and forsake wrath: fret not thyself in any wise to do evil. For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the LORD, they shall inherit the earth. For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be: yea, thou shalt diligently consider his place, and it shall not be.
Commentary:
When we look abroad we see the world full of evil-doers, that flourish and live in ease. So it was seen of old, therefore let us not marvel at the matter. We are tempted to fret at this, to think them the only happy people, and so we are prone to do like them: but this we are warned against. Outward prosperity is fading. When we look forward, with an eye of faith, we shall see no reason to envy the wicked. Their weeping and wailing will be everlasting. The life of religion is a
believing trust in the Lord, and diligent care to serve him according to his will. It is not trusting God, but tempting him, if we do not make conscience of our duty to him. A man's life consists not in abundance, but, Thou shalt have food convenient for thee. This is more than we deserve, and it is enough for one that is going to heaven. To delight in God is as much a privilege as a duty. He has not promised to gratify the appetites of the body, and the humours of the fancy, but the desires of
the renewed, sanctified soul. What is the desire of the heart of a good man? It is this, to know, and love, and serve God. Commit thy way unto the Lord; roll thy way upon the Lord, so the margin reads it. Cast thy burden upon the Lord, the burden of thy care. We must roll it off ourselves, not afflict and perplex ourselves with thoughts about future events, but refer them to God. By prayer spread thy case and all thy cares before the Lord, and trust in him. We must do our duty, and then leave
the event with God. The promise is very sweet: He shall bring that to pass, whatever it is, which thou has committed to him. (Ps 37:7-20)
Prayer:
Most Precious, and Holy Lord and Savior Christ Jesus, We come before You this day, Lord, in Praise and worship, all to You Glory. Thank You our Savior, Thank You, for all Your loving kindness that You have shown each and every one of us. Thank You that You even took care of those that not yet, even know to call on You as their Lord and Savior. Thank You Lord that You have already went before every man and woman, that this day shall Preach, Teach, sing praises unto Your Holy name. Thank You, Christ Jesus that You have already Blessed those who lead in Worship, so that those who hear Your Word will be filled with zeal for You. Thank You Lord, our Savior, Thank You. Lord Jesus we Pray and Thank You, that You have already Blessed our hearing, our praising, our Prayers, and our confessing as we attend Church this weekend. Especially Your Pastors, as they proclaim the truth of Your Word. Give them wisdom and courage so that they do not fall to the temptation of following worldly wisdom, may their Words--which are Your Words--take root in our hearts. Thank You, for going before them making every crooked road straight, and that not one Word that is spoken, not one note sang, in Your name shall come back void. Thank You Lord, Thank You Most Precious Christ Jesus. Every Sunday Lord, help us remember that this is the day You rose from the dead. This is the day that declares victory for believers over sin, death, and hell. Thank You that You are right there with those who gather in Your name, in Your house of Worship. Thank You Lord, Christ Jesus Thank You. Thank You Lord that this day, as every day we have put on the whole armour of God, Thank You Lord, that not even satan himself can prevail against the gates of the Church. Thank You Lord that Greater is He that is in us then he that is in this world. Thank You Lord, that You have told us through Your Word that, no weapon that is formed against us shall prosper; and every tongue that accuses us in judgment you will condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their vindication is from Me,' declares the LORD, You told us Lord, "For the LORD your God is the one who goes with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you." You said, "The LORD shall cause your enemies who rise up against you to be defeated before you; they will come out against you one way and will flee before you seven ways." "To grant us that we, being rescued from the hand of our enemies, might serve Him without fear." When a man's ways are pleasing to the LORD, He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him." "If anyone fiercely assails you it will not be from Me. Whoever assails you will fall because of you." You said, "His heart is upheld, he will not fear, until he looks with satisfaction on his adversaries." "For in the day of trouble He will conceal me in His tabernacle; in the secret place of His tent He will hide me; He will lift me up on a rock. And now my head will be lifted up above my enemies around me, and I will offer in His tent sacrifices with shouts of joy; I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the LORD." You said, "So that we confidently say, 'THE LORD IS MY HELPER, I WILL NOT BE AFRAID. WHAT WILL MAN DO TO ME?"
Thank You Lord, O Bless That wonderful name of Christ Jesus, Glory To God, The King of kings. Thank You Lord, Thank You. All Glory To God, our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus, in the highest. Thank You Lord.
Lord this day, let the Words of our mouths and the meditations of our hearts be acceptable unto You, for into thy hands we commit our Spirit, Lord Thank You.
Now may the God who gives perseverance and encouragement grant us to be of the same mind with one another according to Christ Jesus, so that with one accord we may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, accept one another, just as Christ also accepted us to the glory of God."
For we proclaim and bare witness, that these things we ask in the Precious, and Holy name of Christ Jesus, in whose name we Pray, to be already done!
Amen.
