VERSE:
Psalm 69 (King James Version)
Save me, O God; for the waters are come in unto my soul. I sink in deep mire, where there is no standing: I am come into deep waters, where the floods overflow me. I am weary of my crying: my throat is dried: mine eyes fail while I wait for my God. They that hate me without a cause are more than the hairs of mine head: they that would destroy me, being mine enemies wrongfully, are mighty: then I restored that which I took not away. O God, thou knowest my foolishness; and my sins are not hid from thee. Let not them that wait on thee, O Lord GOD of hosts, be ashamed for my sake: let not those that seek thee be confounded for my sake, O God of Israel. Because for thy sake I have borne reproach; shame hath covered my face. I am become a stranger unto my brethren, and an alien unto my mother's children. For the zeal of thine house hath eaten me up; and the reproaches of them that reproached thee are fallen upon me. When I wept, and chastened my soul with fasting, that was to my reproach. I made sackcloth also my garment; and I became a proverb to them. They that sit in the gate speak against me; and I was the song of the drunkards. But as for me, my prayer is unto thee, O LORD, in an acceptable time: O God, in the multitude of thy mercy hear me, in the truth of thy salvation. Deliver me out of the mire, and let me not sink: let me be delivered from them that hate me, and out of the deep waters. Let not the waterflood overflow me, neither let the deep swallow me up, and let not the pit shut her mouth upon me. Hear me, O LORD; for thy lovingkindness is good: turn unto me according to the multitude of thy tender mercies. And hide not thy face from thy servant; for I am in trouble: hear me speedily. Draw nigh unto my soul, and redeem it: deliver me because of mine enemies. Thou hast known my reproach, and my shame, and my dishonour: mine adversaries are all before thee. Reproach hath broken my heart; and I am full of heaviness: and I looked for some to take pity, but there was none; and for comforters, but I found none. They gave me also gall for my meat; and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink. Let their table become a snare before them: and that which should have been for their welfare, let it become a trap. Let their eyes be darkened, that they see not; and make their loins continually to shake. Pour out thine indignation upon them, and let thy wrathful anger take hold of them. Let their habitation be desolate; and let none dwell in their tents. For they persecute him whom thou hast smitten; and they talk to the grief of those whom thou hast wounded. Add iniquity unto their iniquity: and let them not come into thy righteousness. Let them be blotted out of the book of the living, and not be written with the righteous. But I am poor and sorrowful: let thy salvation, O God, set me up on high. I will praise the name of God with a song, and will magnify him with thanksgiving. This also shall please the LORD better than an ox or bullock that hath horns and hoofs. The humble shall see this, and be glad: and your heart shall live that seek God. For the LORD heareth the poor, and despiseth not his prisoners. Let the heaven and earth praise him, the seas, and every thing that moveth therein. For God will save Zion, and will build the cities of Judah: that they may dwell there, and have it in possession. The seed also of his servants shall inherit it: and they that love his name shall dwell therein.
COMMENTARY:
David complains of great distress. We should frequently consider the person of the Sufferer here spoken of, and ask why, as well as what He suffered, that, meditating thereon, we may be more humbled for sin, and more convinced of our danger, so that we may feel more gratitude and love, constraining us to live to His glory who died for our salvation. Hence we learn, when in affliction, to commit the keeping of our souls to God, that we may not be soured with discontent, or sink into despair. David was hated wrongfully, but the words far more fully apply to Christ. In a world where unrighteousness reigns so much, we must not wonder if we meet with those that are our enemies wrongfully. Let us take care that we never do wrong; then if we receive wrong, we may the better bear it. By the satisfaction Christ made to God for our sin by His blood, He restored that which He took not away, he paid our debt, suffered for our offences. Even when we can plead Not guilty, as to men's unjust accusations. David complains of the unkindness of friends and relations. This was fulfilled in Christ, whose brethren did not believe on him, and who was forsaken by His disciples. Christ made satisfaction for us, not only by putting off the honours due to God, but by submitting to the greatest dishonours that could be done to any man. We need not be discouraged if our zeal for the truths, precepts, and worship of God, should provoke some, and cause others to mock our Godly sorrow and deadness to the world. Whatever deep waters of affliction or temptation we sink into, whatever floods of trouble or ungodly men seem ready to overwhelm us, let us persevere in Prayer to our Lord to save us. The tokens of God's favor to us are enough to keep our spirits from sinking in the deepest outward troubles. If we think well of God, and continue to do so under the greatest hardships, we need not fear but He will do well for us. And if at any time we are called on to suffer reproach and shame, for Christ's sake, this may be our comfort, that He knows it. It bears hard on one that knows the worth of a good name, to be oppressed with a bad one; but when we consider what a favor it is to be accounted worthy to suffer shame for the name of Jesus, we shall see that there is no reason why it should be heart-breaking to us. The sufferings of Christ were here particularly foretold, which proves the Scripture to be the word of God; and how exactly these predictions were fulfilled in Jesus Christ, which proves him to be the true Messiah. The vinegar and the gall given to him, were a faint emblem of that bitter cup which he drank up, that we might drink the cup of salvation. We cannot expect too little from men, miserable comforters are they all; nor can we expect too much from the God of all comfort and consolation.
PRAYER:
Most Heavenly Father, our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus. we come humbly before You this morning once again in Prayer and praise. Thank You Lord that You have seen fit to keep us. Thank You Lord and Savior Christ Jesus, that You have not allowed any harm or danger to come anywhere near our doors. Thank You Lord that we know that greater is He that is us then he that is in this world. Thank You Lord and Savior Christ Jesus, Thank You. Father we confess that we have sinned, either, by thought, word, or action, and we know that You have told us; that if we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, You is faithful and righteous to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make You a liar and Your Word is not in us. So Father, we confess that we have sinned, and ask Your forgiveness and want You to know that we are truly Godly sorry for having offended You. Thank You that the debt for our sins have already been paid, by You, our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus by You shading of Your blood on the cross. Thank You Lord and Savior Christ Jesus, Thank You. Father God, Thank You. I will bless the LORD at all times; His praise shall continually be in my mouth, I will also praise You with a harp, even Your truth, O my God; to You I will sing praises with the lyre, O Holy One of Israel. My lips will shout for joy when I sing praises to You; and my soul, which You have redeemed, Bless the LORD, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless His holy name. Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget none of His benefits; who pardons all your iniquities, who heals all your diseases; who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with loving kindness and compassion; who satisfies your years with good things, so that your youth is renewed like the eagle, Praise the LORD! Praise the LORD from the heavens; praise Him in the heights! Praise Him, all His angels; praise Him, all His hosts! Praise Him, sun and moon; Praise Him, all stars of light! Praise Him, highest heavens, and the waters that are above the heavens! Let them praise the name of the LORD, for He commanded and they were created, Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, Through Him then, let us continually offer up a sacrifice of praise to God, that is, the fruit of lips that give thanks to His name. Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Thank You Lord and Savior Christ Jesus, Thank You. Blessed Lord, You are our harbor of safety in the storms of life, our rock that we cling to for Salvation, and our Redeemer who alone can save us from destruction. Most Precious Lord and Savior our Father, Bless them, please touch also our men and women in harms way fighting wars, we Pray that none will let their troubles overwhelm them and that You will strengthen and encourage, save and deliver them, and that they will know that You are their God, and that nothing is impossible if they will only believe in You, and be obedient to Your Holy Word. we That You Lord, for all You have given, Thank You God. Thank You Precious Lord God, for all You have withheld, all You have withdrawn, all You have permitted, all You have prevented, all You have prepared for us, For the place You are keeping for use in Heaven, for having created us to love You for eternity, and for promising us that You would never leave or forsake us. Father we have no fear of any man, because we know what You have told us, and promised us and we are standing on Your Holy Word that; The LORD helps them and delivers them; He delivers them from the wicked and saves them, because they take refuge in Him, Those who hate you will be clothed with shame, and the tent of the wicked will be no longer, The LORD shall cause your enemies who rise up against you to be defeated before you; they will come out against you one way and will flee before you seven ways, For the LORD your God is the one who goes with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you, In famine He will redeem you from death, and in war from the power of the sword, No weapon that is formed against you will prosper; and every tongue that accuses you in judgment you will condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their vindication is from Me,' declares the LORD, The LORD is for me among those who help me; therefore I will look with satisfaction on those who hate me, To grant us that we, being rescued from the hand of our enemies, might serve Him without fear, For the scepter of wickedness shall not rest upon the land of the righteous, so that the righteous will not put forth their hands to do wrong, For in the day of trouble He will conceal me in His tabernacle; in the secret place of His tent He will hide me; He will lift me up on a rock. And now my head will be lifted up above my enemies around me, and I will offer in His tent sacrifices with shouts of joy; I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the LORD, When a man's ways are pleasing to the LORD, He makes even his enemies to be at peace with him, His heart is upheld, he will not fear, until he looks with satisfaction on his adversaries, God bring about justice for His elect who cry to Him day and night, and will He delay long over them, If anyone fiercely assails you it will not be from Me. Whoever assails you will fall because of you, The LORD, who preserves the souls of His godly ones; He delivers them from the hand of the wicked. THE LORD IS MY HELPER, I WILL NOT BE AFRAID. WHAT WILL MAN DO TO ME? Thank You Lord and Savior Christ Jesus, Thank You. Thank You that You did not give us a Spirit of fear, but of power. You told us Lord, and we believe You that; If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you, He gives strength to the weary, and to him who lacks might He increases power. Though youths grow weary and tired, and vigorous young men stumble badly, yet those who wait for the LORD will gain new strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles, they will run and not get tired, they will walk and not become weary, He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds, I can do all things through Him who strengthens me. Thank You Lord and Savior Christ Jesus, for all that You have done, and all that You intend to do for us Your children who love You and desire to do Your will, and believe on You.
