Spreading God's Love Thru Prayer
VERSE:
Psalm 18 (King James Version)
I will love thee, O LORD, my strength. The LORD is my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; my God, my strength, in whom I will trust; my buckler, and the horn of my salvation, and my high tower. I will call upon the LORD, who is worthy to be praised: so shall I be saved from mine enemies. The sorrows of death compassed me, and the floods of ungodly men made me afraid. The sorrows of hell compassed me about: the snares of death prevented me. In my distress I called upon the LORD, and cried unto my God: he heard my voice out of his temple, and my cry came before him, even into his ears. Then the earth shook and trembled; the foundations also of the hills moved and were shaken, because he was wroth. There went up a smoke out of his nostrils, and fire out of his mouth devoured: coals were kindled by it. He bowed the heavens also, and came down: and darkness was under his feet. And he rode upon a cherub, and did fly: yea, he did fly upon the wings of the wind. He made darkness his secret place; his pavilion round about him were dark waters and thick clouds of the skies. At the brightness that was before him his thick clouds passed, hail stones and coals of fire. The LORD also thundered in the heavens, and the Highest gave his voice; hail stones and coals of fire. Yea, he sent out his arrows, and scattered them; and he shot out lightnings, and discomfited them. Then the channels of waters were seen, and the foundations of the world were discovered at thy rebuke, O LORD, at the blast of the breath of thy nostrils. He sent from above, he took me, he drew me out of many waters. He delivered me from my strong enemy, and from them which hated me: for they were too strong for me. They prevented me in the day of my calamity: but the LORD was my stay. He brought me forth also into a large place; he delivered me, because he delighted in me. The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands hath he recompensed me. For I have kept the ways of the LORD, and have not wickedly departed from my God. For all his judgments were before me, and I did not put away his statutes from me. I was also upright before him, and I kept myself from mine iniquity. Therefore hath the LORD recompensed me according to my righteousness, according to the cleanness of my hands in his eyesight. With the merciful thou wilt shew thyself merciful; with an upright man thou wilt shew thyself upright; With the pure thou wilt shew thyself pure; and with the froward thou wilt shew thyself froward. For thou wilt save the afflicted people; but wilt bring down high looks. For thou wilt light my candle: the LORD my God will enlighten my darkness. For by thee I have run through a troop; and by my God have I leaped over a wall. As for God, his way is perfect: the word of the LORD is tried: he is a buckler to all those that trust in him. For who is God save the LORD? or who is a rock save our God? It is God that girdeth me with strength, and maketh my way perfect. He maketh my feet like hinds' feet, and setteth me upon my high places. He teacheth my hands to war, so that a bow of steel is broken by mine arms. Thou hast also given me the shield of thy salvation: and thy right hand hath holden me up, and thy gentleness hath made me great. Thou hast enlarged my steps under me, that my feet did not slip. I have pursued mine enemies, and overtaken them: neither did I turn again till they were consumed. I have wounded them that they were not able to rise: they are fallen under my feet. For thou hast girded me with strength unto the battle: thou hast subdued under me those that rose up against me. Thou hast also given me the necks of mine enemies; that I might destroy them that hate me. They cried, but there was none to save them: even unto the LORD, but he answered them not. Then did I beat them small as the dust before the wind: I did cast them out as the dirt in the streets. Thou hast delivered me from the strivings of the people; and thou hast made me the head of the heathen: a people whom I have not known shall serve me. As soon as they hear of me, they shall obey me: the strangers shall submit themselves unto me. The strangers shall fade away, and be afraid out of their close places. The LORD liveth; and blessed be my rock; and let the God of my salvation be exalted. It is God that avengeth me, and subdueth the people under me. He delivereth me from mine enemies: yea, thou liftest me up above those that rise up against me: thou hast delivered me from the violent man. Therefore will I give thanks unto thee, O LORD, among the heathen, and sing praises unto thy name. Great deliverance giveth he to his king; and sheweth mercy to his anointed, to David, and to his seed for evermore.
COMMENTARY:
David rejoices in the deliverance's God wrought for him. The first words, I will love thee, O Lord, my strength, are the scope and contents of the Psalm. Those that truly love God, may triumph in Him as their Rock and Refuge, and may with confidence call upon Him. It is good for us to observe all the circumstances of a mercy which magnify the power of God and His goodness to us in it. David was a Praying man, and God was found a Prayer-hearing God. If we Pray as He did, we shall succeed, and be Blessed, as He was. God's manifestation of His presence is very fully described, ver. #(7 to 15). Little appeared of man, but much of God, in these deliverance's. It is not possible to apply to the history of the son of Jesse those awful, majestic, and stupendous words which are used through this description of the Divine manifestation. Every part of so solemn a scene of terrors tells us, a greater than David is here. God will not only deliver His people out of their troubles in due time, but He will bear them up under their troubles in the mean time. Can we meditate on ver. 18, without directing one thought to Gethsemane and Calvary? Can we forget that it was in the hour of Christ's deepest calamity, when Judas betrayed, when His friends forsook, when the multitude derided Him, and the smiles of his Father's love were withheld, that the powers of darkness prevented him? The sorrows of death surrounded Him, in his distress he prayed, Heb 5:7. God made the earth to shake and tremble, and the rocks to cleave, and brought Him out, in His Resurrection, because He delighted in Him and in His undertaking. (Ps 18:20-28)
PRAYER:
Most Precious Lord and Savior Christ Jesus, we come into Your Holy presence this day in praise and worship. We Thank You Lord Christ Jesus that You saw fit to wake us up this morning, and started us on our way. Thank You Lord that no harm or danger came near our door. Thank You Lord, that just as Your eyes are on the Sparrow, You kept watch over us. Thank You Lord, Thank You. Lord we all have so much to be grateful to You for. You have given us all the gift of Eternal Life, through Your death and Resurrection. You have loved us even before any of us knew to love You. You choose to save us while we were yet sinners. Thank You Lord, Thank You. We love You Lord Christ Jesus.
Dear Father in heaven, as we begin this new week, accept our Thanks for every gift that you have given us. for our body, mind, and soul, and especially for giving us saving faith and the promise of Eternal Life in Heaven. We know that we have made the best use of Your Blessings. But we are sorry for our sins, and ask Your forgiveness. Bless the whole Christian church and all its members. Thank You Lord, Thank You. Christ Jesus, Lord of our lives Thank You that You will guide those who Preach and Teach, and open the hearts of those who hear You Holy Word, and let Your Word, be a light unto their feet. Thank You Lord Christ Jesus. Thank You Lord Christ Jesus, that You have told us through Your Holy Word; Casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you, do not let your heart be troubled; believe in God, believe also in Me, be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all comprehension, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus, let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in one body; and be thankful, and my God will supply all your needs according to His riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Thank You Lord, Thank You. O' Bless that wonderful name of Christ Jesus. Lord we have no fear of any man, we know that You are King of Kings, and Lord of Lords, and that in all things concerning us You are in total control. So we can say with confidence, what can man do to me. Thank You Lord, Thank You. You told us that we are afflicted in every way, but not crushed; perplexed, but not despairing; persecuted, but not forsaken; struck down, but not destroyed, therefore we do not lose heart, but though our outer man is decaying, yet our inner man is being renewed day by day. For momentary, light affliction is producing for us an eternal weight of glory far beyond all comparison, while we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal, but the things which are not seen are eternal, for His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for a lifetime; weeping may last for the night, but a shout of joy comes in the morning, you have turned for me my mourning into dancing; You have loosed my sackcloth and girded me with gladness, that my soul may sing praise to You and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks to You forever, finally, brethren, whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is of good repute, if there is any excellence and if anything worthy of praise, dwell on these things, for if you return to the LORD, your brothers and your sons will find compassion before those who led them captive and will return to this land. For the LORD your God is gracious and compassionate, and will not turn His face away from you if you return to Him, He has not dealt with us according to our sins, nor rewarded us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is His loving kindness toward those who fear Him. As far as the east is from the west, so far has He removed our transgressions from us, this hope we have as an anchor of the soul, a hope both sure and steadfast and one which enters within the veil, let us not lose heart in doing good, for in due time we will reap if we do not grow weary, no weapon that is formed against you will prosper; and every tongue that accuses you in judgment you will condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their vindication is from Me,' declares the LORD, the LORD is for me among those who help me; therefore I will look with satisfaction on those who hate me, to grant us that we, being rescued from the hand of our enemies, might serve Him without fear, how blessed are the people who know the joyful sound! O LORD, they walk in the light of Your countenance. In Your name they rejoice all the day, and by Your righteousness they are exalted, I will rejoice greatly in the LORD, my soul will exult in my God; for He has clothed me with garments of salvation, He has wrapped me with a robe of righteousness, as a bridegroom decks himself with a garland, and as a bride adorns herself with her jewels. Thank You Lord, Thank You our Beloved Lord and Savior Christ Jesus. Lord You already know what each and everyone of us, stand in need of. You see the husband and wife that need to hear a Word from You, You see the single mother who need to know that You are there, the man and woman, that is unemployed, the sick and the helpless, our young adults, Lord we are asking You to this day, touch each and everyone of them, healing and restoring them. Thank You, Lord Christ Jesus, Thank You. Unto You Lord we give all the Glory. Thank You Lord.
Now to Him who is able to do far more abundantly beyond all that we ask or think, according to the power that works within us, to Him be the glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations forever and ever. Who has by the shading of Your Blood on the Cross, and raising from the grave, has proven Himself, to be more then able to keep us, until the day of Your coming. Today and everyday, for the rest of our lives, we give Thanks unto You, most Beloved Christ Jesus. Father, i in the Holy and Blessed name of Christ Jesus, who is Lord of my life, proclaim that our Prayer, and all we ask is already done, for we ask in Your most Precious Holy name, Christ Jesus, and i commend each and everyone of Your children's bodies and souls into Your loving, mighty hands, our Beloved Lord and Savior, Christ Jesus.
Amen.
