VERSE:
Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying, Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the LORD shall have them in derision. Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure. Yet have I set my king upon my holy hill of Zion. I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee. Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession. Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter's vessel. Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth. Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling. Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.
Psalm 2 (King James Version)
COMMENTARY:
We are here told who would appear as adversaries to Christ. As this world is the kingdom of satan, unconverted men, of every rank, party, and character, are stirred up by him to oppose the cause of God. But the rulers of the earth generally have been most active. The truths and precepts of Christianity are against ambitious projects and worldly lusts. We are told what they aim at in this opposition. They would break asunder the bands of conscience, and the cords of God's commandments; they will not receive, but cast them away as far as they can. These enemies can show no good cause for opposing so just and Holy God, which, if received by all, would bring peace upon the earth. They can hope for no success in so opposing so powerful a kingdom, as our Lord's. The Lord Jesus has all power both in heaven and in earth, and is Head over all things, and has great love for His Church, not withstanding the restless endeavors of his enemies. Christ's throne is set up in His Church, that is, in the hearts of all believers.
PRAYER:
Precious Lord and Savior Christ Jesus, Thank You for this another day, Thank You Beloved Lord, that You woke us up this morning and started us on our way, Thank You Lord that You allowed no harm or danger to come near our door. O Bless that wonderful name of Christ Jesus, Thank You Lord, Thank You. Dear Christ Jesus, we give You all the praise this day, as always. Beloved Savior, we know the many sins we have committed, but Thanks be unto God, our Lord and Savior Christ Jesus, we by the power of Your Holy Spirit, let us remember Your dying love for us. You paid for all our sins in full with Your suffering and death. Thank You, Lord Christ Jesus. Your love for us, sinners, is incomprehensible. With the assurance that we are redeemed and at one with the Father, now let us serve You with a refreshed soul and body. We thank You for Your Grace which covers a multitude of sins. Help us all to honor You this day and to do Your will. Be with our loved ones and keep them in Your care. Guide and direct their paths. Bless Your Church in all the world and help Her to fulfill Her mission of reaching the lost. Be with our soldiers in Iraq and keep them from harm. Be with the sick and the dying, the troubled and the hurting. Give them rest from their burdens. Make us an instrument of Your love and peace. Lord we Thank You that Your perfect will for us is already done. Thank You Lord, Thank You, that You have told us through Your Holy Word, Make sure that your character is free from the love of money, being content with what you have; for He Himself has said, 'I will never desert you, nor will I ever forsake you,' so that we confidently say, 'The Lord is my helper, I will not be afraid. What will man do to me, Come to Me, all who are weary and heavy-laden, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light, For His anger is but for a moment, You have turned for me my mourning into dancing; You have loosed my sackcloth and girded me with gladness, that my soul may sing praise to You and not be silent. O LORD my God, I will give thanks to You forever, His favor is for a lifetime; weeping may last for the night, but a shout of joy comes in the morning. Thank You Lord Christ Jesus, who is Lord of our lives.
Now unto Him who is more then able to keep us, We give You Thanks this day, Christ Jesus, and every day for the rest of our lives, and proclaim that our Prayer, and all we ask is already done, for we ask in the Holy and Precious name of Christ Jesus. I commend our bodies and souls into Your loving hands Lord Christ Jesus.
Amen.
