In Psalm 119, every verse is about the word of God.
V2) Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, and that seek him with the whole heart.
V4) Thou hast commanded us to keep thy precepts diligently.
V11) Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.
There is a blessing for you when you keep the word of God. How does one keep the word of God? We are to keep His word diligently, seek him with our whole heart, and hide the word in our hearts.
V15) I will meditate in thy precepts, and have respect unto thy ways.
V14) I have rejoiced in the way of thy testimonies, as much as in all riches.
V16) I will delight myself in thy statutes: I will not forget thy word.
V18 Open thou mine eyes, that I may behold wondrous things out of thy law.
V24) Thy testimonies also are my delight and my counselors.
V66) Teach me good judgment and knowledge: for I have believed thy commandments.
V104) Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way.
V91) O how love I thy law! it is my meditation all the day.
What does it mean to hide the word in your heart? When we hide the word in our hearts, we meditate or reflect on it. It’s not open the book, read a few verses and forget everything you read. That’s not keeping the word with diligence. It’s a willful decision to remember the Word and apply it in your daily life. It’s also speaking the word to others. The word of God will give us joy and delight. The word of God is all riches. The word of God opens our eyes and contains wondrous things. We get wise counsel in the word of God. God’s word is good understanding, judgment and knowledge for us, and these are all wondrous things.
V40) Behold, I have longed after thy precepts: quicken me in thy righteousness.
V41) Let thy mercies come also unto me, O LORD, even thy salvation, according to thy word.
V29) Remove from me the way of lying: and grant me thy law graciously.
V45) And I will walk at liberty: for I seek thy precepts
When we long after the word of God, it will quicken us in God’s righteousness. We learn that God is gracious, slow to anger. And that He is rich in mercy. The word of God is liberty. It is truth. It is able to make us free. And we learn the way to salvation. The word of God gives us life.
V72) The law of thy mouth is better unto me than thousands of gold and silver.
V127) Therefore I love thy commandments above gold; yea, above fine gold.
V86) All thy commandments are faithful: they (the proud) persecute me wrongfully; help thou me.
V89) For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven.
V90) Thy faithfulness is unto all generations: thou hast established the earth, and it abideth.
V91) They continue this day according to thine ordinances: for all are thy servants.
The word of God is better than all the treasure any of us could imagine. We are to love His word above fine gold. His word is faithful and true. God’s word is settled in heaven forever. Not only is all heaven settled, the earth was established and abides by God’s word. He spoke all of this into being and has suspended the earth in space.
V103) How sweet are thy words unto my taste! yea, sweeter than honey to my mouth!
V105) Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path.
V130) The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.
V133) Order my steps in thy word: and let not any iniquity have dominion over me.
V165) Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them.
The word of God tastes sweet as honey to those who read it and believe it. It gives enlightenment. When we don’t know what to do or which way to go, God’s word will show us the way. God’s word clears the air and illuminates the path we should take. God’s word gives order to our lives and peace. His word is truth.
V140) Thy word is very pure: therefore thy servant loveth it.
V151) Thou art near, O LORD; and all thy commandments are truth.
V160) Thy word is true from the beginning: and every one of thy righteous judgments endureth for ever.
The word of God is pure, and it is truth. It was true from the beginning, and it endures forever.
God bless,
Mary O.
